CELPIP test format: sections, tasks, timing and scoring
CELPIP-General is a computer-delivered test completed in one sitting. It assesses listening, reading, writing and speaking through everyday communication situations.
Quick answer
What should you know about CELPIP test format: sections, tasks, timing and scoring?
The official overview currently lists Listening at 46–55 minutes, Reading at 43–56 minutes, Writing at 53 minutes and Speaking at 15 minutes. Confirm the current format on CELPIP's official site before test day.Listening and reading
Listening uses six scored parts across problem solving, everyday conversations, information, news, discussion and viewpoints. Reading uses four parts covering correspondence, a diagram, information and viewpoints. Official pages may include unscored test-development items, so use the current source for exact presentation.
- Listening: follow purpose, details and attitude.
- Reading: connect evidence with paraphrased choices.
Writing and speaking
Writing contains an email and a survey response. Speaking contains eight tasks with different communication purposes. Practise each task separately before combining the complete component under time.
- Writing: Task 1 email and Task 2 survey response.
- Speaking: eight task-specific responses.
Computer-delivered workflow
Practice typing, on-screen planning, microphone response timing and sustained attention. Familiarity with the interface should reduce avoidable friction, but it cannot replace language development and task completion.
