Convert TEF Canada scores to NCLC

Enter the “Équivalence ancien score” values currently requested by IRCC. Convert each ability separately and verify the official table before using a result in an application.

Enter the “Équivalence ancien score” values

Use the previous-score-equivalency column currently required by IRCC, not the separate “Score / 699” values.

This converter does not calculate an official TEF score, CRS points or immigration eligibility. Read the column labels on your statement and confirm current instructions on Canada.ca.

Ranges checked September 24, 2026 against IRCC’s language-test tables.

Which TEF score should you enter?

IRCC currently instructs Express Entry candidates to use the column labelled “Équivalence ancien score.” The separate Score / 699 values shown on a TEF Canada statement are not compatible with the Express Entry system at this time.

Read the headings on the result carefully. If the statement or historical test period creates uncertainty, follow the current IRCC notice or contact the testing organization.

How to interpret the conversion

Speaking, listening, reading and writing can map to different NCLC levels. Do not average the four results when a program requires a threshold in every ability.

  • Use official result values for an application.
  • Treat mock estimates as preparation feedback.
  • Confirm the program requirement and current equivalency table.
