Quick answer

What should you know about TCF Canada Speaking Task 3: opinion structure and practice?

Use a flexible four-part structure: position, first reason with an example, second reason or limitation, and a concise conclusion. Record a fresh answer instead of memorizing a script.

Develop rather than repeat

After stating your position, make each reason add new information. An example should demonstrate the reason rather than restate it. A useful qualification can show that you understand limits without abandoning the position.

  • Position: answer the question directly.
  • Reason 1: explain and illustrate.
  • Reason 2: add a different dimension.
  • Qualification: acknowledge a condition or exception.

Original practice prompt

Consider this independent prompt: Should cities reserve more public space for community activities, even when parking becomes less convenient? Plan one social reason, one practical consequence and one condition under which the change would work.

Possible position
À mon avis, les villes devraient consacrer davantage d'espace aux activités collectives, à condition de proposer des solutions de transport accessibles.

The position is clear and already introduces a condition that can be developed later.

Use recordings to repair one weakness

Record once under the normal time constraint. Listen separately for organization, development and language control. Choose only one priority for the second recording, such as adding concrete examples or reducing repeated connectors.

  • Do not write a full script first.
  • Use short notes for reasons and examples.
  • Correct briefly and continue.
  • Compare the second attempt with the first.
